Alexis Cunningham
Collegeville, PA
Rock
Born in Huntington West Virginia, Alexis first garnered attention on Youtube; writing and singing songs with her acoustic guitar. She signed her first development deal out of high school to a small independent label in South Jersey. That led to recording an EP at Universal Music where she was introduced to her mentor, Eric Bazilian (The HOOTERS/CYNDI LAUPER). The two wrote and recorded a folk/pop album and toured Scandinavia with Swedish pop legend Niklas Stromsted. Most recently, Alexis competed for her home state of West Virginia on NBC's “American Song Contest” alongside artists like Allen Stone, Macy Gray, and Jewel. Alexis Cunningham's music meets somewhere between hippie and punk. There is a solid 90's rock influence combined with a gentle "Laurel Canyon" vibe that verges on ethereal. Her voice is rich and clear, full of emotion and kissed with a soft rasp. She's lyrically playful and fun, yet raw and human. Alexis is quite prolific and continues to evolve her sound and songwriting. She's worked closely with mentor, Eric Bazilian (The HOOTERS, songwriter of Joan Osbourne's "One of Us") among others to help cultivate her musical identity. Most recently she's teamed up with Danny Black (Good Old War, Gregory Alan Isakov, Joshua Radin) to create what they have named "Sunflower Punk" - an organic mix of 70's and 90's influenced songs that are both dirrrrty and earthy. This new sound wonderfully compliments Alexis' vibrant storytelling. So-what exactly does she write about? Life, death, love, friendship, sex, spirtuality, and drugs — of course! Alexis will be releasing these new songs and her debut record in 2024.
