Bill was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where his father, Bill Renn Sr., was as a professional jazz drummer.
Following High School, he attended Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona where he majored in Religion and minored in Musical Performance becoming the pianist for the first jazz ensemble formed at the school and performing throughout the area with various ensembles. In addition, Bill was licensed to the Gospel Ministry and began a life time ministry of helping people to find faith, hope and encouragement.
After graduating with honors, earning a Bachelor for Arts degree, Bill attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas where he graduated with honors, earning a Master of Divinity degree during which time he began to write and perform Christian music in an orginal jazz style with a trio called the Smith/Renn III. Following graduation, Bill was a pastor for 12 years in Texas and Pennsylvania during which time he continued write and perform original Christian music in a jazz style.
In 1998, He left the pastoral ministry and formed Bill Renn Music as a vehicle to write, record and perform original Gospel and Jazz music. Bill's first release in 1998, a co-project with twin brother Wayne, entitled "Trophies of Grace" included 9 original songs in a jazz style that they performed in various venues in Southern Indiana. For the last 25 years, Bill has produced a number of both religious and jazz projects which entertain as well as encourage in a style which one listener described as "moving and easy to listen to".
